Medicinsk etik våren 2018

This course provides an introduction to some of the central problems of medical ethics.  We will take a case-based approach: each topic will be introduced by the discussion of real-life cases, and philosophical concepts and arguments will be identified and analyzed in the course of the discussion and debate.  Our emphasis will be on the development of critical thinking rather than the learning of philosophical theories.

We will cover topics on the value of embryonic life, conflicts between different values in the doctor-patient relationship, the obligations of parents to their children, choices at the end of life, research on humans, genetic engineering, the allocation of health care resources, and ethical issues in public health.
